Federal employees work for the national government, and many car insurance companies recognize them for their service to the country. If you work in the public sector, auto insurers may offer discounts because of your occupation. In fact, GEICO’s first customer base was government employees, and it still advertises special discounts for federal employees.1
Here’s what you need to know about getting car insurance as a federal employee and the discounts you may qualify for.
Cost of car insurance for federal employees
Federal government employees pay the same average rates for car insurance as other professions, but they may get special discounts or coverage options because of their occupation.
For example, GEICO offers a discount of up to 12% on car insurance for active and retired federal employees and a discount of up to 25% for military members. These discounts, and any other discounts you may qualify for, can help reduce your car insurance costs when shopping for coverage.
